Take a look inside our latest Chef's World Series event: a taste of Malta
Providing relief on a hot London summer evening, Condé Nast Traveller hosted an intimate event offering readers the chance to experience a true taste of Malta. Guests had the opportunity to try some of Malta’s finest wines from the San Niklaw vineyards, presented by the owner of the estate himself, John Cauchi.
The event took place at the oh-so-cool Coal Drops Yard, at much loved wine bar The Drop. Nestled under the arches of King's Cross's new foodie hotspot, The Drop curated an array of traditional Maltese dishes to pair with the wines. The favourite of the evening was the grilled swordfish, served with a white bean and garlic salad, and prompted animated conversation about how the summery notes of the slightly chilled 2011 Despatch Sangiovese complemented the white fish.
Cauchi explained for guests how the grapes used in four wines that his estate produces each year are all hand-picked, and go through two selection processes to ensure that only the optimal fruit enters the vinification process. Readers enjoyed spending much of their evening conversing with Cauchi as he made his way round the restaurant garnering the glowing reception of his wines by the guests.
