Last week, Condé Nast Traveller hosted the first Chef’s World Series event of 2024 with ATAVI, marking a new and exciting year for our reader-favourite, culinary-led events. A Taste of Atavi with Ollie Dabbous was hosted at Michelin-starred Hide, one of London’s smartest restaurants. Pushing through the heavy wooden doors, readers were led up the glamorous oak staircase and welcomed with Laurent Perrier champagne. Canapes, including Chicken liver parfait on toasted brioche with fig and hibiscus chutney and Crispy aubergine with Thai basil and green peppercorns, quickly got snaffled, signalling the start of an evening of culinary delights.
Simon Leadsford, Condé Nast's chief business officer for travel and lifestyle, introduced the evening and delighted guests with insights into ATAVI. Created in partnership with legendary Catalan chef Albert Adrià, ATAVI is available in three unique flavours, Umami, Smoked and Sourdough - the latter guests luckily sampled at the event. The three flavours tagliatelle use ancient culinary techniques, including fermentation, roasting and smoking, to showcase the richness and refined flavours.
Once seated, on tables adorned with spring-fresh Flowerbx florals, Ollie Dabbous stepped out of the kitchen to introduce the menu, created bespoke for the evening. Highlights included the Hide signature ‘Nest egg’, a rich umami dish which paired with the floral 2021 Meerlust, Pinot Noir from Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The star of the show was the ATAVI sourdough tagliatelle, served with Cornish crab, garlic & parsley. The sweetness of the crab balanced perfectly with the zesty ATAVI sourdough tagliatelle, with top notes of freshly baked bread and an unexpected sharpness – it evoked many a conversation on how remarkable ATAVI is.
The evening ended on a sweet note, with a Sweet potato, banana, and custard pie—a decadent end to what was truly a dazzling evening.
