Delhi-born, London-based designer Ashish Gupta studied fine art before pursuing his wildly successful career in fashion, and returned to art when he took up photography several years ago. Seeing the art form as a diary of sorts, he eventually collaborated with House of Voltaire on Gaze—a book of portraits that documents, explores and celebrates queer desire and masculinity. A departure from his trademark flashy style, the photos are intimate, personal and tender—but oftentimes maintain a playful energy. The 365 full-color images, Gupta says, “are full of joy, humor, longing, desire, (and more than a little feeling of tenderness) about sex and sexiness. It’s also about exploring images of sexuality and masculinity, but not just the type of images that we tend to see in the mainstream of gay culture.” Price is in Pounds.

A graphic designer at Capitol Records and a freelance artist, Lilak creates playful works, often drenched in irreverence.

Authored by multi-media artist Walt Cassidy (aka Waltpaper), New York: Club Kids proves to be a most comprehensive survey of the legendary antics of ’90s nightlife in NYC. Cassidy, a central figure in the subculture, saw firsthand the “artistic, fashion-conscious youth movement that crossed over into the public consciousness.” Though it includes rare photographs, this book is far more than an attempt at archiving an era that bubbled up from the underground; it also works to contextualize modern-day concepts that originated with the Club Kids: “reality television, self-branding, ‘influencers’ and the gender revolution.”

In a limited edition run of 50, Guy Overfelt has created near-exact replicas of Picasso’s ceramic work from the 1950s—and made them functioning bongs. This one, dubbed “Picasso,” was made in Jingdezhen in southern China—a region known for its porcelain production. Whether used as a bong, displayed as an objet d’art, or even a vase, it’s a playful take on an artwork originally made by a man notorious for having very little sense of humor.
