Chef's World Series: a taste of Portugal at Wild by Tart

Our Chef’s World Series returns with two acclaimed names from the country’s food and wine scene for a tasting-menu feast in London
Chef's World Series a taste of Portugal at Wild by Tart

Port wine was born in the 17th century on the terraced slopes of the Douro Valley in northern Portugal, when British merchants, to gird their loins for the journey home, sloshed brandy into their wine to fortify it. The sweet, rich result was a roaring success. While port may be world famous, Portugal’s rolling temperate landscapes produce a real diversity of wines – from the Douro in the north to Alentejo in the south, known for its aromatic whites and intensely flavoured reds. Such variety can also be seen in the country’s hugely diverse cuisine.

We have invited two acclaimed chefs from both of these Portuguese regions to showcase their highlights for a supper club in the stunning event space at hip restaurant Wild by Tart. Flying over from Portugal are Arnaldo Azevedo, from newly Michelin-starred Vila Foz in Porto, and João Mourato, of Quinta do Quetzal restaurant, set on the slopes of Alentejo’s Vidigueira, close to the oldest known Roman winery in Portugal. Each dish will be paired with wine and accompanied by a guided tasting, led by Wines of Portugal Wine Educator Sofia Salvador.
